Do National Anthems capture current mentality? – South Africa Does It Better Competition

ZA (1)

Dear Members

National Anthems are meant to allude to historical moments of both struggle and glory, and to traditions. However, some were written centuries ago and were never updated to include more recent events.

For instance, the Dutch National Anthem, written while the Netherlands fought to become independent from the Spanish Empire, still compare the Spanish crown to a tyrant. Surely Spain wouldn’t mind being taken from this narrative 🙂

Let`s remember the South Africa’s National Anthem:

Sounds the call to come together,
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom,
In South Africa our land.

With this in mind, our first mission to you is: Re-write the national anthem in a way that you believe will fit your countries current personality and mentality. Are you up to the challenge?

To participate in this mission, please follow this simple rules:

♣ Add the letters « DIB » in front of the title (e.g.: DIB – My National Anthem)
♣ Complete the mission by 11th March at 23h59

Remember: By joining the South Africa Does It Better competition, you can earn 3000 points each week and a 10€ voucher at the end!

Good luck!

Toluna Team
